"If we don't care about our own IP, then people will either turn on you or turn away". Released on the C64 in 1988, Cyberdyne Systems' Armalyte is considered to be one of the finest 8-bit home computer shooters ever made, scoring a whopping 97% in Zzap!64. In 2010, it was remade for PC by Psytronik Software, but that version became obsolete due to a lack of compatibility with Windows 10 and 11. Read the full article on timeextension.com

"I didn't want to lose my anonymity". Roller Coaster was a truly unique video game when it launched on the ZX Spectrum back in 1985. Effectively a 2D platformer, the game took place in an amusement park modelled on the real-world Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the UK, and was such a hit with players that it scored an impressive 94% in Crash magazine. I'm still not convinced The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past is worth pasting over the perfect ending that was Blood and Wine

I'm still not convinced The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past is worth pasting over the perfect ending that was Blood and Wine

Since the persistent rumours of a cheeky extra DLC for The Witcher 3 turned into confirmation from CD Projekt Red that such a thing is on the way prior to The Witcher 4 , there's been a nagging voice in the back of my mind. On one hand, Songs of the Past is more of an RPG I love, the kind of unexpected gift it seems foolish to have reservations about getting a decade and change on from release. On the other, The Witcher 3 in its current form has long felt like as close to the ideal complete package as you can get. Going into last night's opening salvo of Gamescom, I was expecting that the DLC's full reveal might dispel my concerns, getting me fully on board with the idea that, yes, Geralt does need one last ride before Ciri takes over going forwards. Elden Ring plays much better than I'd expected on Switch 2, but it isn't without its flaws

The power of the Nintendo Switch 2 definitely knows its bounds, but that hasn't stopped Nintendo and its fellow publishers from trying to push the handheld device to its limits by porting some of the more demanding and gargantuan of games to the console. The release of Elden Ring : Tarnished Edition is one example of that ambition. I've only been able to spend about ten hours with it so far, which saw me clearing out Weeping Peninsula, Stormveil Castle, and Liurnia of the Lakes before moving onto the treacherous place that is Caelid. This means I'm yet to explore the portion of the game whose performance I'm most curious about – the DLC's Realm of Shadow – but more on that shortly. (This is your spoiler warning for the DLC's ending, as I'll be discussing that below.) Read more
