Cave's Bullet Hell Revival Of 'Dodonpachi Resurrection' Arrives This Month With "A Series First" Battle Royale Mode

Cave, the legendary developer behind classic bullet hell shooters like Dodonpachi, Espgaluda, and Mushihimesama , has just announced it is working on an enhanced version of Dodonpachi Resurrection (otherwise known as Dodonpachi DaiFukkatsu in Japan). Dodonpachi Resurrection Reignite , as the new version of the game is called, is part of a new "Refine Series" and is described as featuring "new stages", "a new character", and "new music", while maintaining the "original frenzy" of "overwhelming bullet patterns", "intense tactical play", and "exhilaration." Includes bug fixes and movement improvements. Here's something cool for fans of obscure Japanese first-person shooters. A new set of ROM hacks has just dropped for Arsys Software and Masaya's Japan-exclusive Mega Drive port of Star Cruiser , fixing a bunch of bugs with the original game and offering some improvements to movement. Star Cruiser, for context, was a first-person shooter with light RPG elements originally released for the PC-8801 in 1988 and followed a hunter charged with destroying an evil militaristic faction called VOID. Considered an early 3D pioneer for its use of polygonal graphics, the gameplay was primarily divided between planet-based exploration/combat and interplanetary travel, with the story being delivered through ADV-style dialogue with NPCs portrayed as sprites. We Happy Few and South of Midnight developers Compulsion Games have announced that they are fully broken up with Microsoft and Xbox, after completing a management buyout. They now once again own the rights to all their own original intellectual properties. Amongst other things, this means that you can buy South of Midnight – summarised by Brendy (RPS in peace) as "a beautiful folkloric tale" and a "plain and unambitious" action-adventure – while still taking part in the BDS boycott against Microsoft's Israeli military connections. When you buy the Steam version of South of Midnight, all your money (after Valve's revenue cut) will go to Compulsion. Read more
