Star Wars: Zero Company will be brilliant because XCOM is brilliant
There's a funny thing with video game genres in particular: a lot of them are based on just closely tracing the lines of preexisting games, only with a few small mechanical tweaks and a different-enough setting over the top. And few genres are quite as obvious in that regard as the XCOM-alike: a turn-based tactics game based on managing a small squad of permanently-killable allies through a series of close-quarters, grid-based combat encounters, before ducking out to do a bit of RPG-lite housework in some kind of base or mothership metagame. This is Star Wars: Zero Company, a game where you do all of that, but it's Star Wars. And obviously it's completely brilliant. Read more

UK Charts: Resident Evil Requiem Gobbles A Herb And Is Back On Top
Graceful ascent. The latest UK boxed charts data is in, and it's a fairly quiet week with no major new entries for the Switch 1 & 2. PS5 and PC got Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls , which debuts at number 6, while Game Freak's Beast of Reincarnation launched on PS5, PC, and Xbox, landing at number 5. Meanwhile, Capcom's Resident Evil Requiem saw a nice boost in sales to jump all the way up to number one, beating Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced and Pokémon Pokopia . A quick search only reveals that outlets are selling Requiem at roughly £10 less than the RRP, but we're not seeing any major discounts that could explain the bump in sales. Knytt, one of 2006's most charming indie platformers, has a surprise Steam re-release - and it’s still free
2006 saw, among such other major events as analogue TV being switched off in Luxembourg, the release of Knytt : a breezy freeware platformer in which you spend a nice couple of hours gathering up parts for your crashed spaceship. While not entirely devoid of light peril, so tranquil and airily atmospheric was Knytt’s run-and-jumpery that someone once asked, among these very pages , whether you could consider it a walking simulator. Solo dev Nifflas has long since moved on, but Knytt itself has just been reborn as Knytt Classic: a "pixel-perfect port" for modern hardware, developed by Wolfhound makers Bit Kid and freshly launched on Steam . Still for free, of course, and with Nifflas’ blessing. Read more

AYANEO Announces Yet Another Colourway Of Its GBA-Inspired Pocket Advance & Some People Aren't Impressed
The company faces accusations of "punishing" existing customers. Since the initial announcement of GBA-inspired KONKR Pocket Advance back in July of this year, AYANEO has taken a very deliberate approach to marketing the Android-based handheld, drip-feeding reveal after reveal to keep it in the spotlight. For most people interested in the device, it was inevitably a bit grating, with it taking a whole week from the name reveal for us to even get a glimpse at what the device would look like, and two more weeks after that before we got the initial screen specs.
