I've seen much more of 1666: Amsterdam, and the witchy game by the creator of Assassin's Creed has some surprising features
1666: Amsterdam returned to the public eye this year after a protracted 15 year conception that involved legal battles, rewritten concepts, secret publishers, and finally: an actual game. Suffice to say, this is the game Patrice Désilets has wanted to make for a very long time - Désilets being the original creator of Assassin's Creed and more recently the mind behind primate evolution game Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey . Assassin's Creed creator's dark and witchy action game 1666: Amsterdam is out in early access sooner than we expected
1666: Amsterdam, a game that's survived years of legal battles between Assassin's Creed creator Patrice Désilets and Ubisoft, has an early access release date. It'll be released 25th August for PC, on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Read more
1666 Amsterdam's early access launches this month, and I'm equal parts excited and worried
Despite only being revealed at Summer Game Fest, 1666 Amsterdam's early access launch is just around the corner, and it feels ambitious.
1666 Amsterdam feels like the Assassin's Creed game that never was, and fighting witch hunters with my time-traveling familiar left me hungry for more
With magical combat, city sleuthing, and physical roguelike charms, I can't wait for 1666 Amsterdam's Early Access on August 25
A Decade Later, No Man's Sky Fans Have Explored Less Than 1% Of Its Planets
Hello Games celebrates its 10th anniversary. No Man's Sky , unbelievably, launched a decade ago on 9th August 2016. Though it was met with mixed reviews at the time, developer Hello Games persevered and produced over thirty major updates for the game, transforming it into an impressive experience that you can play on both Switch and Switch 2. To celebrate the milestone, Hello Games' founder and managing director Sean Murray has provided an open letter to fans to thank them for the support over the years. In it, he confirmed that although "tens of millions" of travellers have embarked upon journeys across the galaxies, less than 1% of the available planets have been explored. Mad. Someone's head is killing me in Memoirium, a PSX-styled soulslike about battling through bizarre dreamscapes and decorating your bedroom
I don’t know whose dreams Memoirium warps into action-RPG soulslike levels - it may not even be the player character’s - but whoever they are, they need to lay off the post-10pm Babybels. Besides being filled with chair-wielding thugs and hornfaced monsters, this blocky sleeprealm is lousy with the kind of shattered fantasy geometry that could send an innocent dodgeroller tumbling fatally off a hundred-foot-high-ledge. Also, the ledge is a giant sword. Such was just one of my deaths in Memoirium’s generously proportioned demo, which is available now on Steam ahead of the game’s launch this Thursday . Even in these introductory stages, it’s clear that the subconscious you’re stuck in probably doesn’t belong to a contented vicar, opening up with a void-ravaged cemetary before routing you across a crumbling statue into a cultish school. Mundane respite, however, is available through Memoirium’s unusual take on bonfire rest spots: a bedroom that, resources permitting, you can furnish and decorate to your liking. Read more

Feature: "It's Disingenuous To Call It A Remake" - Bethesda On Why Oblivion For Switch 2 Is A Remaster
"the core bones are still the original game". I don't know about you, but one of my favourite memories of the Switch was the debut announcement trailer . Not only did it effortlessly communicate what the console could do, but it showcased one of the biggest games of the previous decade running on a teeny, tiny handheld. On an aeroplane. With the controllers detached. "Wait, this thing can run Skyrim ?!" Read the full article on nintendolife.com
Cancelled Quake 4 Expansion 'The Awakening' Surfaces Online, With An Unbelievable Backstory To Boot
"I came across this at a very sad point in my life". I don't know about you, but whenever I order something online, the only "surprise" I typically get is a crushed spider carcass or the disappointment of discovering my items have been damaged in transit. Not — shall we say — discovering a lost expansion to Quake 4 , a 20-plus-year-old PC game. For one particularly lucky gamer, named jmarshall23, however, the latter seems to be exactly what happened to them recently when they went shopping for a vintage PC on Amazon, only to find an alpha of Ritual Entertainment's abandoned Quake 4 expansion, The Awakening , lurking on the hard drive (h/t: dsogaming via Retro Dodo ) — that's their story, anyway.
