Feature: Nintendo Switch 2: Year One - Looking Back, How Would You Rate It So Far?

Switch 2 365. 5th June 2026 marks the first anniversary of Switch 2 , the console we had known was coming for many months — years, even — before Nintendo officially unveiled it in January 2025. With US tariffs, global economic uncertainty, RAM-ageddon, and rising prices affecting all the platform holders, it's been a challenging period for the games industry, not least for a company launching hardware. Did this week's PlayStation State of Play host the largest number of games running on PS5 Pro? Not technically, but close

For a while after it launched, I never felt like the PlayStation 5 Pro ever actually came out. You could argue Sony hasn't been promoting it well. The initial Ghost of Yotei reveal took place in a September 2024 State of Play, yet its trailer didn't include Pro footage, and the accompanying PS Blog post makes no mention of whether or not the game would support it . At that point, the Pro was mere days old - but you'd think the first major first-party title to be announced after the Pro's reveal would, you know, reference it? Read more

Gothic's remake is out today, adding new detail and awfulness to the 2001 RPG's bustling prison world

Hey you! You're finally awake – oh, hang on, I'm thinking of the other fantasy RPG in which you start out as a shackled prisoner. Today is release day for Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic's remake of Gothic , the 2001 first-person RPG from Piranha Bytes. It'll be live on Steam in a matter of hours , with a demo still available as of writing. While much plumped up with expanded questlines, more NPC routines, new traversal abilities and "modernized" combat, it's still broadly the same tale of a bunch of convicts trapped beneath a magic dome, quarrying ore to sell to a king who is waging an endless war against the orcs. That's the king in the intro cinematic, below, looking down at the orc's head in his fist like he can't quite remember how it got there. How long has he been carrying that head? Did he confuse it with his coffee mug at breakfast? Read more
