Double Fine are all in on making Brutal Legend 2, if you're willing to give them $100 million in their game jam Kickstarter, anyway

Under Microsoft's ownership, it was probably a safe bet that Double Fine would never get to make a Brutal Legend 2, even in this IP-obsessed world we find ourselves in. However! Microsoft don't own Double Fine anymore , and so the once again indie developer can more or less do what they want. Which they're already doing, in fact, as they're currently hosting a game jam Kickstarter that includes a stretch goal that'll see them making Brutal Legend 2. If you give them $100 million. The Witcher 3: Songs of Past looked alright in its behind-closed-doors preview, though I'm more enticed by the remaster’s combat upgrades

The Witcher 3: Songs of Past looked alright in its behind-closed-doors preview, though I'm more enticed by the remaster’s combat upgrades

Well, I say behind-closed-doors. It turns out that if I wanted to watch a prerecorded saunter through a chunk of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt ’s Songs of the Past expansion , I could have just tuned into the Gamescom livestream , rather than travelling to Germany before parking myself in an almost pitch-black miniature theatre for 45 minutes. Now my by-touch handwritten notes are completely illegible, and I don’t even get to feel smug about attending a super secret preview. Still, the preview – which like Songs of the Past itself, was a joint operation between CD Projekt Red and co-devs Fool’s Theory – didn’t show off the expansion alone. It also focused repeatedly on the combat, movement, UI and role-playing reworks being introduced in the base game’s Remastered upgrade , which is coming months ahead of Songs of the Past on September 29th. And, usual hands-off disclaimers applying, looks like it could be the more appealing package for lapsed Witchers – especially as it’s free to owners of the original. Read more

This Fan-Made Sonic The Hedgehog Demo Brings Green Hill Zone To The Amiga

*Soundtrack not included. The bank holiday brought surprising news in the world of emulation, as Sega's inimitable icon Sonic the Hedgehog was spotted hitting the loop-de-loop on the humble Commodore Amiga, courtesy of a new playable demo from fanmodder Reassembler. Currently titled " Aonic ", Reassembler's demo uses A1200 technology to recreate Green Hill Zone Act 1, a stage practically canonised in the minds of classic gaming fans the world over. The Aonic demo, meticulously adapted directly from the original Sega Mega Drive code, authentically reproduces the stage design, enemies, speed, and physics of Sega's phenomenal 1991 release - a release that became the studio's best-selling game to date while also making a multimedia superstar out of its spiny protagonist. Reassembler's announcement video includes a one-to-one of the original Mega Drive game running alongside the Aonic demo, leaving very little room for comparison. Visually, Aonic looks almost identical to its Mega Drive counterpart - save for a necessary alteration to the game's HUD, which lacks the transparency of the original game and is forced to exist outside the gameplay window. The recreation of the Mega Drive's colour palette is courtesy of another modder, RetroRic, who released their own demo back in January of this year. The combination of RetroRic's visual tinkering and Reassembler's adaptive coding has resulted in Aonic's spectacular first showing. Teamwork indeed makes the Dreamwork. Hideki Kamiya Says Capcom Has "No Awareness" Of How Scary Resident Evil Is

"I’ve never been a fan of horror". Despite directing one of the greatest survival horror games of all time with Resident Evil 2 , game creator Hideki Kamiya has always been open about his aversion to scary stuff. Now, in speaking with VGC , Kamiya has called out Capcom directly for supposedly having "no awareness" of how scary its flagship survival horror franchise really is. He says that despite wanting to experience this year's Resident Evil Requiem and revisit the ruined site of the R.P.D., he is unable to do so because of how much it scares him.
