"First Major Release" Of SuperStation One's 'Console Mode' Is Coming This Week
Update: "Double the performance of earlier builds". Taki Udon's promising SuperStation One FPGA PS1 console is getting a lot of people excited, and with good reason—not only is it capable of running your original PS1 games and accessories, but it will also play games for other systems thanks to the fact that it's built on the MiSTer FPGA platform. We've already seen what the system and its dock will look like, but now Taki Udon is showing off the SuperStation One's bespoke user interface, which will support user themes and box artwork. Gears of War: E-Day Could Be the First UE5 Game to Fulfil the Engine's Promise
Plus: Halo: Campaign Evolved and the X25 special edition console from the Xbox Showcase. Microsoft took to the stage earlier this week for the Xbox Games Showcase, with Gears of War: E-Day taking the headline spot. This is a game that we're excited about, as it might just be the first to truly fulfil the promise of Unreal Engine 5: large-scale, varied and detailed environments without pop-in, crisp image quality and extensive ray-traced lighting via hardware Lumen. Add on long view distances, prominent environmental damage and a 60fps target, and it's clear why developers The Coalition are known as masters of Unreal Engine. Playing its mystery-drenched demo suggests I'll like everything about About Fishing, except the fishing
I spent this morning in the new demo of angler-detective mystery About Fishing – an updated and expanded sampler from the one that Oisin tried last year – and as a piece of playable marketing, it’s done the job. I am intrigued by its tale of mermaids and missing persons; I am absorbed in its creepy rural backdrop of dead streets and churches with prison cells in the basement; I am impressed by how it handles its cold, drizzly weirdness without ever going hey-hey wacky. Even when it introduces a thieving goose. Basically, this place is horrible, and I want to spend more time in it. Despite the fact, and I’m aware that this might be an issue, that I wish I didn’t have to do so much goddamn fishing. Read more
