Around The Bend: Pearl Jam’s No Code Turns 30
JR Moores looks back three decades and finds it was No Code that provided grunge's Kid A moment, not In Utero A massive fan of massive bands, the radio disc jockey Zane Lowe once tried to draw a parallel between three of his favourite big hitters: Pearl Jam, Radiohead and Kings Of Leon. Interviewing the second upon the release of In Rainbows, Lowe compared the Oxford group to their apparent American counterparts on the grounds that they "do exactly what they wanna do and they continue to make great records and they have the back catalogue to back it up." To this Ed O'Brien replied, "I saw Pearl Jam last year and it blew my mind." Then they span 'My Party'... The post Around The Bend: Pearl Jam’s No Code Turns 30 appeared first on The Quietus .

Sounds of Praise: Olúsín [Worshippers] by Ibukun Sunday
The UK-based Nigerian producer stretches and pulls the sonics of sacred spaces into mind-bending new shapes Ibukun Sunday on 25.10.2025 at Daylight Music at St John’s Leytonstone [credit Kat Ciemiega Photography] Every year the Semibreve Festival takes attendees on a side quest through the churches of Braga. Each day brings at least one performance of deep, reverberating music in one of the Portuguese city’s many historic places of worship. It’s impossible not to notice the idiosyncratic reverbs these buildings house, but just as integral to how we listen is the hush and awe they induce. I’m not religious. My main reason for visiting a church is to experience concerts of droney, ethereal experimental music. But prolonged exposure to these kinds of places... The Low Culture Essay: Kirsteen McNish on Jason Molina’s Let Me Go, Let Me Go, Let Me Go
Two decades on from the week of its release, Kirsteen McNish reflects on how a rainy night in Hull connected her to a quiet, moving album from the Mid West rust belt. One rain-soaked evening in a coastal city I discovered an album that has stayed with me for nigh on two decades, glimmering in the periphery of my memory. I wish it onto film soundtracks when scenes feel like they might be improved by it, weave it into the pace of my walks at dusk, and into the corners of my kitchen in the dark as autumn looms. I feel it meet the night air as the moon moves and glows through clouds. Jason Molina’s Let Me Go, Let Me Go, Let Me... Siavash Amini & Eugene Thacker – Songs for Sad Poets, Vol. III
Siavash Amini & Eugene Thacker Songs for Sad Poets, Vol. III The third collaboration between the Tehran-based composer and American philosopher splinters the voice into scintillating, timeless fragments Songs for Sad Poets Vol. III by Siavash Amini & Eugene Thacker The line between poetry and music has always been a blurry one. Christopher Nolan recently claimed he cast musician and hip hop artist Travis Scott in his epic The Odyssey because the Homeric saga has been handed down through civilisations as “oral poetry, which is analogous to rap,” and therefore he was directly evolving the craft. Now, perhaps more convincingly and certainly less commercially, Tehran-based composer Siavash Amini and Brooklyn author Eugene Thacker take this statement one step further.
