"I Was Determined To Breathe As Much Life Into The Population Of Britannia As Possible" - The Ultima VII Team On Making The Epic RPG

"With Ultima VII, I was ready to reintroduce actual malevolent Evil". Ultima VII is one of my favourite video games of all time. I vividly remember playing it on my family's brand-new 486DX PC, and after making the leap from 16-bit consoles, the sheer scope of its world stunned me. Here was a game that stacked gameplay mechanics on top of gameplay mechanics yet still managed to present a cohesive, believable world. You could pretty much wander in any direction and choose to ignore the main quest; I spent a large portion of my time making clothing or baking bread, simply because I could. Preview: 'How Are Monsters Made?' & 5 Other Things I Learned Playing Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World

If you like Piña Marauders... I'll admit that I am relatively new to the Dragon Quest Monsters series. The Dark Prince passed me by on Switch, and while I have some memories of playing Joker on my DS, I never really "got into it" in the same way that I did the mainline games around the same time. So, I was excited to find out more about Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World at a recent Square Enix event. My memories of the series were very much 'what if Pokémon were a little slimier ', and I was keen to see if it had broken out of Game Freak's shadow in the years since, with 'mon-likes cropping up all over the place. The Original Super Mario RPG Has Been Modded With The Switch Remake's Special Features

Modder backports weapons, boss battles, and more. One of the best boons of video game remakes is how they offer opportunities to tweak, expand, or enhance the experiences that came before, utilising modern-day power, or simply contemporary game design knowledge, to boost a classic title with features perhaps unavailable to the original developer. In the case of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars , however, one modder is going one step further. As reported by Gaming Reinvented , AnAxemRanger is taking features added to the 2023 Nintendo Switch remake and backporting them into the original 1996 SNES release. Trump regime's Tetris ripoff yanked from White House website after Tetris Company declare they "take copyright infringement very seriously"

Goodbye, Build the Wall. The Tetris-style game that the US government had stuck on the White House website as a way of promoting the Trump administration's commitment to brutalising and persecuting immigrants in the name of securing borders. After the Tetris Company hinted that they might be eyeing legal action, Build the Wall is gone, replaced by a far more palatable 404 error message . Read more

This AI-Assisted Escape from Monkey Island Fan Project Makes Me Long For An Official Remaster

Help us, Double Fine, you're our only hope! If you asked people to name their favourite Monkey Island game, chances are Escape From Monkey Island wouldn't be a lot of people's first pick. Released in the year 2000, the first 3D entry in the series is considered something of a "black sheep," due to the game's use of tank controls instead of a point-and-click, frustrating puzzle segments (who can forget Monkey Kombat?), and its controversial changes to the game's lore (Herman Toothrot is Elaine's father, now?!). "Let them work their magic" - Persona series director say Persona 4 Revival's localisation team is integral to the remake's success

How do you solve a problem like Persona 4 ? It's a thorny question, and one that's been the subject of a lot of internet debate since Persona 4 Revival - a remake of the 2008 original - was revealed. To cut a long story short, a lot of people see Persona 4 as problematic. One of the main cast, Yosuke, is a conservative, judgemental, 'teenage pervert' stereotype . While he does have an arc that sees him soften somewhat, he's also just a bit of an asshole. Elsewhere in the game, there are allusions to gay and trans storylines some feel are inelegantly handled - where the characters in question can be seen to suppress their true selves for the sake of 'falling in line' with what society expects.
